Being Thankful
Since we were born, everything in this life has never been ours. Whether we realise it or not, everything around us is given to us by Allah SWT. Our very existence is also a blessing from Allah, which the main purpose is for us to be a
Khalifah, and bring others closer to Him.
The question here is, have we been thanking Allah SWT for all the things He has given us? I have always asked myself this, yet I always fail to answer. Sometimes it seems like humans are ignorant, as we tend to take the things given to us by granted.
Let us ask ourselves,
"What have we contributed for Islam?"
If we compare our achievements to the time of the Prophet, we are far left behind. The things that we have done is such a small part to what the Prophet and the Sahabah have achieved, yet we still choose to relax in our comfort zone and sometimes go against what Allah had ordered us to do. Are we not ashamed? What answers will we present in front of Allah in the Hereafter? These questions should be pondered upon everyday.
Life is too short for us to waste it. We wake up early in the morning to perform our Subuh prayer, and our days will end as Isya' arrives. Within these 24 hours, what do we usually fill our time with? We can often see what the people around us normally do; most of them will do things that are worldly desires. The easiest example would be the cinema. How many people go to the cinema everyday, as compared to the mosque? The cinemas will always be packed with people who are majority Muslims, but the mosque and musolla will never cease to have empty safs and sometimes, only a few are present. Do we not realise our true purpose of life?
As humans, we are weak and always depend on Allah SWT for guidance. Everything in life is given to us by Allah, so how do we express our gratitude to Him?
The only way to repay His blessings is to obey his commands. It is a must for us to always perform good deeds and treat others with kindness. The best exemplar would be the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He is best known for his good character and personality and his determination to spread the knowledge of Islam to others. Although the Prophet is free of sins, he is constantly repenting and always remembers Allah SWT in every action he does. If we compare ourselves to the Prophet who has no sins, we have countless sins, yet do we repent to Allah so much that we cry in our prayers?

An avid reader
Indulge into the world of fantasy
A lifelong book collector
Everyone has their own pastime, either cooking, swimming, or playing sports. As for me, I prefer to spend my time with reading books, newspapers, magazines, or any written piece. Since I was small, I enjoyed reading books to the point of reading multiple books in a day. One of the places I look forward to going is the bookstore. I could spend hours browsing through books displayed in the shop. Similarly, the library is like a safe haven for me; a place where I can escape from reality for a short moment.
It is through the act of reading that I can feel the emotions portrayed by the characters in the book, especially if you have stumbled upon an amazing story. Putting down a good book would be difficult as your mind has already been engulfed with the story. A good writer is one who manages to capture the reader's interest to continue reading page by page.
I believe that reading is magical; it brings you into your own world full of fantasy. Putting yourselves at the character's shoes would create a lot of excitement and also suspense as to what would happen next.
There are numerous benefits of reading such as increasing your vocabulary by introducing you to new words; words which you have never heard before. Reading will also let us gain knowledge and apply it in our daily lives. Not only that, reading serves as a form of relieving stress, as a good book can brighten up our gloomy day.
One of my favourite authors would be Mitch Albom. His books are one of a kind, they contain heartwarming stories which causes tears to form in your eyes. We can empathise with the characters as if you are in their current situation.
His books for example, 'For one more day' tells the story of a son and his mother, where the son wishes that he could have just another day to spend time with his mother.
